About the Saratoga Film Forum

The Saratoga Film Forum is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to bringing a wide variety of quality films to downtown Saratoga Springs.

Founded on the principles of community involvement, interaction, and support, the Saratoga Film Forum has done more than just show provocative, entertaining, and educational films. Through its ongoing collaboration with other local not-for-profit and for-profit groups, the Film Forum has continually provided opportunities for a variety of voices in the community to be heard.

In 1993, a group of Saratogians began to meet regularly to address a shared need within the community for a comfortable, in-town movie theater where they might screen the kind of quality, hard-to-find films that would promote the art of cinema in Saratoga Springs. They envisioned a kind of venue that would offer alternative and quality movies, including independent films, classic American cinema, foreign films, independent films, documentaries, shorts, and video productions by local and nationally known filmmakers. At the same time, they sought to complement basic screenings with a "film forum" to provide for the discussion of cinema, and to host regular panels, forums and workshops with producers, directors, writers, and other members of the filmmaking community. They also wanted to promote access for other local groups to the medium of film as a way of educating, informing, and generating discussion about local and national issues of concern to our community. Finally, they wanted to offer these films and events at affordable rates to all and slightly reduced rates to members.

For the past 17 years the Saratoga Film Forum has achieved and maintained those original goals. We present "non-mall" showings, offering choices that are not usually available within 20 miles of Saratoga Springs. We have an active membership base of over 350, and the Film Forum draws moviegoers from all over the Capital Region. Our regular film screenings take place on Thursday and Friday evenings, starting at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. We also conduct a variety of special forum events throughout the year that include live performances, lectures, discussions, symposia, and panels.

Our monthly postcard mailing, weekly e-mail updates, and Facebook and Twitter posts keep viewers abreast of our latest events and screenings.
