Fish Tank--which won the Jury Prize at Cannes--is set in a bleak British public housing estate, and is the story of Mia (Katie Jarvis), a volatile 15-year-old destined for a life of misery. She's been expelled from school, is taunted by boys, has alienated all her friends, barely converses with her mother and sister, and retreats to an empty room to dance alone. One hot summer day, Mia's mother Joanne (Kierston Wareing) a young, party girl type, brings home Connor (Michael Fassbender), a good-looking guy who seems nice enough, although Mia doesn't get along with him at first.

Fish Tank

Connor takes Mia, Joanne, and her little sister Tyler (Rebecca Griffiths) on a drive to the country--and Mia and Connor begin to bond in unexpected and disturbing ways.

"Jarvis, whom the director reportedly discovered at an Essex train station, is nothing less than a revelation in a performance that is tender, spiky and utterly fearless in its physical and emotional range." --Ann Hornaday, Washington Post
