In a small German village, 15 months before the outbreak of World War I, the residents begin to experience a series of unexplained incidents. Some appear to be ordinary accidents--a farmer's wife dies falling through rotten floorboards--while others are more bizarre--a whole field of cabbages is beheaded with a scythe--and some may well be malevolent--a barn is set on fire; a farmer hangs himself; a midwife's handicapped child is found tied to a tree, seriously beaten, with a threatening message on his chest speaking of divine punishment. And then the children start acting bizarre.

White Ribbon

Who could be responsible for all this? And why? The village schoolteacher starts little by little to unravel the mystery, and is shocked at what he discovers...

The White Ribbon won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, and was nominated for two Oscars (Best Foreign Language Film, Best Cinematography). "Don't let anyone tell you too much about this spellbinder."
--Peter Travers, Rolling Stone (Rated R for some disturbing content involving violence and sexuality.)
